Following a competitive process artist Robert Orchardson was selected to develop a new work for the new atrium space within the refurbished Schofield Building, which will act as the reception and entrance to the Mathematics department. Robert’s proposed work is inspired by images collected of early aviators and scientists. Drawing on the pioneering aspirations of the early kite structures Robert has proposed to develop a series of works suspended in the space, like a constellation of geometric forms floating upwards. Each element can be viewed from the different levels of the building providing another perspective on the work. The work is expected to be completed by March 2015.
