Alison Mott's Writing Workshop

Radar's For & Against: Art, Politics and the Pamphlet two-day public event is fast approaching. This upcoming Friday and Saturday, artists and academics will take over Fearon Hall, the Loughborough Library, the Charnwood Museum and Queen's Park to celebrate the long history of the political pamphlet, and to demonstrate the pamphlet's continued relevance.

To lead up to this weekend, local historian, writer, and Loughborough University alumna Alison Mott offered a free creative writing workshop centred around her research on the 19th-century Luddites in Loughborough. In the Charnwood Museum's Education Room on Wednesday afternoon, Mott challenged participants to complete a series of writing exercises inspired by her own stories about local history. Participants' work served as the basis for conversation about technology, politics, and facing social change. Stories of the Loughborough Luddites prove particularly relevant to today's uncertain sociopolitical climate.

Mott is currently writing a children's book about Loughborough's 19th-century Luddites, and will be reading selections from her book at For & Against's Pamphlet Day this Saturday. She will also be reading some of the work produced at Wednesday's writing workshop.
