Lindsey Mendick’s practice centres on her work in ceramic, which she is drawn to through its tactile nature and its desire to be manipulated by the maker. She also embraces banner painting, sewing, metalwork, furniture making and sound within her work. By playfully combining low culture iconography and high culture methods of construction, Mendick creates humorously decadent and elaborate installations that encourage the exploration of personal history in a cathartic fashion. She has described her work as revelling ‘in the criticisms I had been given…too loud, too colourful, too feminine, too British.’

The workshop:

Lindsey will run a session experimenting in clay.   The group will create exquisite corpse style sculptures that explore the nature of collaboration and ‘freeing up’ our practice!  The group will first begin by making pinch pots that will then be adapted by another student.  The final part of the day will involve the creation of two large sculptures as a group.
